Four Years of Waiting to be Adopted… and Still Hoping

As told by Caitlyn & Connor

Hi there,

We’re Caitlyn and Connor.

We’re not kittens anymore—at 8½ years old, we’re what you might call “seasoned snugglers.” But even though we’ve grown up, we still dream about the same thing every cat dreams of: a person to love and a place to finally call home.

When we were tiny kittens, Ruff Patches found us our first family. We thought it was forever. But in 2021, when our mom lost her home during the pandemic, she had to make the heartbreaking decision to bring us back. She loved us so much, and Ruff Patches promised her we’d be safe. They’ve kept that promise every single day.

We’ve been waiting ever since.

Our foster home is wonderful. We have cozy beds, cat trees to climb, a sunny window to watch the world go by, and even our very own CatTV. The humans here are kind and patient, and they treat us like family. But as much as we love them, it’s not the same as having a home of our own.

I’m Caitlyn, by the way. I’m the braver one. I’m curious, clever, and I can solve any food puzzle you throw my way. My brother Connor is a little different. He’s shy. If someone moves too quickly, he’ll dart under the bed. But if you sit quietly and let him come to you, he’ll peek out, inch closer, and eventually curl up beside you. He just needs a little time to feel safe.

We were adopted once during our wait. We thought we’d finally found our forever. But our new person didn’t give Connor the time he needed to settle in, even though Ruff Patches explained how important it was to go slow. He wanted to keep me and send Connor back. But Ruff Patches made a promise: they would never separate us. We’re a team. One day, he brought us back. That was hard.

I’m Connor’s brave sister, and he’s my gentle shadow. We give each other courage.

It’s been four years now. Four years of waiting.

We know we’re not kittens anymore. We know it’s harder to find a home for two bonded cats, especially when one of us is shy. But we also know we have so much love left to give. Years of warm laps, soft purrs, and quiet companionship.

We don’t need much. A calm home. A sunny window. A patient heart.

What we long for most is a person of our own. To be adopted together and loved for who we are.

Could it be you? If not, maybe you could share our story so we can find our person?

With love and hope,

Caitlyn & Connor
